Felt Maker and Fibre Artist

Traditional Techniques - Original Designs - Unique Creations
About me
My name is Em Lynch and I’m a felt maker from North Cornwall.
I first discovered felting as a creative outlet over 10 years ago, when a lovely artist friend called Liz gave me some wool fibres and lent me a couple of books, and off I went!
I mainly use the wet felting technique. I find the laying out and design process calming and meditative, and the shrink and finishing stages make for a productive daily workout!
Over the years I have developed different styles, going where my mood takes me whilst maintaining my core principles of creating practical and durable but beautiful items and artwork.

About my felt

Abstract Nature
The area I live in, nestled between rugged coast and craggy moorland, provides me with a wealth of inspiration, and I find that natural, undyed fibres lend themselves to portraying the atmosphere of the land, sea and rock-scapes that surround me, in abstract form.

Unique Fabrics
I also love to play around with patterns, experimenting with different fibres and yarns, shapes, colours, textures and techniques in order to develop unique hand made fabrics, clothing and accessories with a bit of randomosity!

Creature Comforts
My first recreation of animals in felt was a portrait of our dear dog Strider in cushion form. I just had to give it a go, and I was delighted with the results! Using photographic images I combine wet and needle felting techniques to create snugly pet and wildlife cushions.
